Join sinfonia ViVA, their Principal Conductor Andre de Ridder for an evening of music by Schumann and Strauss.

For Strauss’ Horn Concerto No.2 symphonia ViVA will be joined by soloist David Pyatt, who first came to prominence as the youngest ever winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition in 1988.

The rest of the evening will comprise of two pieces of music written by Robert Schumann; Zwickau Symphony in G minor and Symphony No. 4.

A free pre-concert talk will also take place at 6.30pm in the auditorium, where André de Ridder will talk about Schumann’s Zwickau Symphony.

West Side Story

The Magic Flute

Paul Potts on Tour

The voice of Paul Potts stunned both judges and viewers alike during his rendition of Puccini’s Nessum Dorma in the final of ITV’s talent show ‘Britain’s Got Talent’.

Since his triumphant win, Paul has has gone on to touch the hearts of millions. He has released his debut album, performed in front of the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance and is now embarking on a six month tour alongside soprano Natasha Marsh.

Paul’s first performance was on Thursday 17th at Rhyl Pavillions in Wales and he is now travelling across Britain until 17th February when the UK part of the tour will come to an end at London’s Hammersmith Apollo.

From there, Paul will head off around the globe to Australia, New Zealand and Asia, before returning to Europe for the grand finale in Helsinki on 6th June.

Valentine’s Baroque Concert

The Baroque ensemble group, Pellegrina are performing in a Valentine’s Day concert at Blackheath’s All Saint’s Church.

The concert will feature a repetoire of Baroque chamber music ‘for lovers’, including instrumental works by Corelli, Couperin and Roberto Valentino, intimate songs of love by Purcell and Monteclair and cantatas by Scarlatti and Bononcini.

Pellegrini who have captivated audiences since 2002 with their inventive programmes of Baroque music, will be performing on period instruments including a recorder, viola da gamba and harpsichord.

Shostakovich Violin Concerto

Violinist Sarah Chang will be performing Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto alongside the London Symphony Orchestra on 21st February.

Recognised as one of the most captivating and gifted musicians, Sarah Chang has performed with most of the world’s major orchestras under the baton of some of the most esteemed conductors.

Since receiving the Gramophone Magazine award of ‘Young Musician of the Year’ in 1993, she has carved out a successful solo career, performing in some of the world’s prestigious concert venues and recording a vast repetoire of music on the EMI label.

Sarah Chang will be joining the LSO at the Barbican Hall to perform Shostakovitch’s First Violin Concerto, a piece of music that despite being composed in 1948, was not unveiled until 1955 when the cultural oppressions of the Stalin regime had passed.
